The husband's keenness to sponsor an orphan is a good deed that should be supported. The most complete form of sponsorship is to take the orphan into one's home so that they live under the care of the sponsor, who then undertakes their financial support and upbringing. The issue of the orphan being a stranger to the family can be resolved by breastfeeding them five times within the first two years, so they become a foster son. If breastfeeding is not possible, the orphan can be raised until adolescence, after which they can live separately from the family. There is no sin upon the wife if she does not assist her husband in raising the orphan. The husband's sponsorship of the orphan solely through financial means is rewarded, even if it is less than full sponsorship.
