Is it permissible to take out a loan from a commercial bank to establish a business project, knowing that Islamic banks do not finance individuals, and that there is a jurisprudential disagreement regarding the permissibility of dealing with commercial banks?
The true future, in which happiness must be secured, is that which comes after this worldly life, by attaining happiness therein through obeying Allah's commands and avoiding His prohibitions. So whoever follows Allah's guidance will not go astray nor be miserable, and whoever turns away from it will have a constricted life. And whoever does righteous deeds, We will surely grant him a good life. Commercial bank loans are forbidden usury (riba). What banks claim — that their profits are not fixed or that the whole world deals with them — does not change the impermissibility of usury. Islamic banks deal with commercial banks in matters that do not involve usury.
