What is the ruling on the preacher ordering the worshippers to invoke blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) during the sermon?

It is not prescribed for the preacher to say to those present: "Let us hear your prayers upon the Prophet," or similar phrases. Rather, it is obligatory for them to listen attentively to the sermon. And whoever prays upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, upon hearing his mention, should do so silently to himself. Raising one's voice with prayers upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in front of the preacher is disliked or forbidden by consensus. Neither the muezzin nor anyone else should raise their voice with prayers or anything else during the sermon, or before it, or between the two sermons. This act is an innovation and ignorance, and it is not permissible to do it.
