Is praying upon the Prophet (peace be upon him) during the Friday sermon considered the forbidden idle talk, taking into account the Imam's saying and his reminding of the noble verse: "Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, ask [Allah to confer] blessing upon him and greet him with [due] submission"?

Scholars have differed regarding the ruling on sending blessings upon the Prophet during the sermon. Abu Hanifa held that listening to the sermon is superior, while Abu Yusuf permitted it discreetly. The Malikis are of the view that it is permissible in a small amount discreetly without raising the voice when there is a reason for it, preferring to omit it if the Imam does not mention the reason. As for the Shafi‘is, they consider listening to be recommended but not obligatory, and they permit sending blessings aloud. The Hanbalis consider it permissible to send blessings upon him discreetly when he is mentioned.

The most preponderant opinion is the permissibility of sending blessings upon him discreetly when there is a reason for it, combining the command to listen attentively and the command to send blessings upon him, without causing disturbance. It is preferable to omit it if the preacher does not mention him, and instead focus on the sermon.
