It is not permissible to use any drink or food to which some alcohol has been added, even in a small proportion, based on the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Whatever intoxicates in large amounts, a small amount of it is unlawful." An exception to this is if the alcohol completely transforms into a non-intoxicating substance before being mixed. It is also not permissible to use medication to which alcohol has been added, based on the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Indeed, it is not a cure, but rather a disease," unless the alcohol transforms into a non-intoxicating substance before being added, or if there is an extreme necessity and no alcohol-free alternative is available; in such a case, necessity is judged by its measure.
