How does the soul depart from the body at the moment of death, and where exactly is its exit point?

We have no specific knowledge of how the soul precisely departs, but the apparent meanings of the texts indicate that it exits from the lower parts of the body. They also suggest that the departure of the believer's soul is smooth, while the departure of the disbeliever's soul is difficult. Some descriptions portray death as a tremendous and severe event, and that death has pangs and agonies, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "There is no god but Allah; indeed, death has pangs."
