What is the permissible period between engagement and marriage?

There is no religiously prescribed duration for the engagement period; rather, it depends on the agreement of both parties and the achievement of benefit. It should be noted that it is not obligatory. It is therefore preferable that the engagement period not be prolonged unnecessarily, due to the Sacred Law's urging to expedite marriage.
