What are the Islamic legal rulings regarding maintaining kinship ties, showing compassion, and reuniting family members (a father with his children and their wives)?

Maintaining kinship ties is an obligation, and Allah has warned against severing them. As for brothers gathering with their wives, if the intention is for men to gather alone and women to gather alone, then this is commendable. However, for men to gather with women who are unlawful for them to see (such as a brother's wife in relation to her husband's brother), then it is forbidden for them to look at each other, based on the Almighty's saying: (Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what they do.) Care must be taken to maintain kinship ties while adhering to Allah's boundaries and avoiding pleasing people by incurring His wrath.
