Regarding whom was the following verse revealed: "Among the believers are men who have been true to their covenant with Allah. Some of them have fulfilled their pledge (by martyrdom), and some of them are still waiting, and they have not changed [their commitment] in the least"?

Ibn Kathir mentioned that the reason for the revelation of the noble verse: (Among the believers are men who have been true to their covenant with Allah) relates to Anas ibn an-Nadr and Talhah ibn Ubaydullah, may Allah be pleased with them. Al-Bukhari narrated that the verse was revealed concerning Anas ibn an-Nadr, who was absent from the Battle of Badr. He swore that if he witnessed another battle with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him, he would show Allah what he could do. So he fought in Uhud until he was martyred, and his body was found with more than eighty wounds. His sister recognized him only by his fingertips. The Companions believed that the verse was revealed concerning him and his companions. Ibn Abi Hatim also narrated that Talhah ibn Ubaydullah said: After Uhud, the Prophet, may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him, recited this verse. When a man asked him about it, the Prophet, may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him, pointed to Talhah, who was wearing two green Hadrami garments, and said: "O questioner, this man is one of them."
