When was alcohol forbidden in Islam?

Scholars are in agreement that intoxicants () were forbidden upon the revelation of the verses in Surat Al-Ma'idah (5:90-91), but they differed on the year in which it was prohibited. The most well-known opinions state that it was forbidden in the third year of the Hijra, after the Battle of Uhud.
