Are the People of the Book addressed by the Sharia rulings, and is it permissible to gift silk to a Christian or pork, and what is the evidence for that and the counter-evidence?

The preponderant view among scholars is that disbelievers are addressed by the ancillary rulings of Islamic law. Therefore, it is not permissible for a Muslim to gift one of them a silk garment for him to wear. However, it is permissible if his wife or one of his female relatives will wear it. As for the evidence of those who say that disbelievers are not addressed by the ancillary rulings, it is that since these acts are not valid or accepted from them, there is no point in demanding them to perform them. However, this is a weak argument.
