Will the servant be held accountable on the Day of Resurrection for sins from which he sought forgiveness after Allah promised to forgive them, or is seeking forgiveness sufficient for entering Paradise?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If Allah forgives a servant, He will not hold him accountable for his past sins. However, He may present his deeds to him, and then admit him into Paradise. And the meaning of receiving forgiveness at one time does not imply that it is always guaranteed, for he might commit a sin thereafter, and the servant does not guarantee forgiveness, as his repentance might be weak. He might repent from some sins and forget to repent from others, and accountability is a difficult matter. Therefore, a believer must be cautious of belittling any sin from which he has repented, for he does not know if he was sincere in his repentance or not.
