What is the ruling on marrying a poor person whom the family does not approve of, despite the girl's desire and conviction in him?

Parents should not prevent their daughter from marrying a young man whose religiosity and character are pleasing. If the parents insist on refusal, it is preferable to obey them to avoid discord, especially if one of the parents is present.

However, if the girl fears harm to her religion or worldly life due to not marrying this young man, she can refer the matter to the Sharia court so that the judge may marry her or compel her guardian to marry her.

And if marriage is not facilitated, she must accept Allah's decree, for perhaps there is good in that, in accordance with His saying, the Almighty: "And perhaps you dislike a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah knows, while you know not."
