What is the ruling regarding a university student residing in a mixed university neighborhood in Europe who seeks to eat halal food from restaurants run by non-Muslims?

A Muslim's residence in lands of disbelief is not permissible except out of a legitimate necessity, such as seeking knowledge, medical treatment, or a benefit for Islam. One must be extremely cautious regarding their religion and morals, avoid mixing with men and women except when necessary, and seek residence with Muslims. As for the food and slaughtered animals of the People of the Book, they are permissible for a Muslim unless they are inherently forbidden, based on the Almighty's saying: (The food of those who were given the Scripture is lawful for you and your food is lawful for them) [Al-Ma'idah:5].
