Is the use of comedy or anecdotes in da'wah lectures considered an innovation (bid'ah)?

Comedy that revolves around mocking and ridiculing breaches of decorum (khawarim al-muru'ah), making testimony unacceptable, just as the testimony of one who tells many humorous stories is not accepted.

If comedy reaches the extent of imitating a person to ridicule them and make people laugh, as actors and clowns do, then it is unlawful (haram).

As for comedy that is based on making people laugh with truthful situations, or mentioning anecdotes that involve no backbiting or ridicule, and are not excessive, there is no harm in it; for the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to joke but would only speak the truth, and it is a relief for the listeners.
