What is the ruling on striking female students for the purpose of education, encouraging them to perform their duties, and accustoming them to not be negligent?

There is no harm in a teacher or parent disciplining children if they fall short in their duties, so that they may become accustomed to noble character and steadfast in righteous deeds. This is why it is stated in the Hadith: "Command your children to pray when they are seven years old, and beat them for it when they are ten years old, and separate them in their beds." Thus, beating applies to both males and females at the age of ten if they neglect prayer, and it should be a light, non-dangerous beating that achieves the intended purpose.
