Is expiation required or does sin befall one who has intercourse with his menstruating wife due to overwhelming passion?

It is permissible for a husband to enjoy his menstruating wife, except for intercourse in the vagina, based on the Almighty's saying: (So keep away from women during menstruation), and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Do everything except intercourse." Whoever has intercourse with his wife in her vagina while she is menstruating has committed a forbidden act and must repent. Scholars differ on the obligation of expiation; some believe it is obligatory, with a charity of one dinar or half a dinar, while others do not consider it obligatory due to the lack of conclusive evidence. The most cautious approach for one who is able is to give charity along with repentance and seeking forgiveness.
