It is not permissible for a man to be alone with a woman who is not lawful for him, because that leads to corruption. And the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "No man is alone with a woman but Satan is the third of them." It is permissible to look at her when intending marriage, without seclusion, and in the presence of one of her *mahrams*. This is for what usually appears of her, such as the face, hair, hands, and feet, provided there is no *fitna*.
