Is it permissible to remove the niqab—which was worn under duress and because of which the questioner feels extreme distress and suffocation—with the intention of wearing it later out of full conviction?

It has been previously clarified that wearing the niqab is obligatory for women, according to the preponderant opinion of scholars. A Muslim must obey the commands of Allah and His Messenger, and it is not permissible for a believing man or woman to have a choice when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter.

Feeling aversion to wearing the niqab does not negate the reward; rather, a Muslim is rewarded for wearing it and for striving against the self and desires in obedience to Allah’s commands. This is with emphasis on two matters: the obligation of immediate adherence to the شرعي حجاب (Shar'i hijab), and not relying on dreams or visions for deriving religious rulings.
