What is the meaning of "he who makes his whims his god"? And what is the legal ruling regarding one who discards papers containing Prophetic traditions without reading them, and refuses to consult with people of knowledge concerning matters in which there is disagreement?

Ibn Abbas and Qatadah interpreted the noble verse: "Have you seen he who has taken his god as his desire?" to mean that whoever follows his desires is not restrained by piety or Taqwa (God-consciousness) from doing so. As for throwing papers that contain the Prophet's sayings (peace be upon him), if they are intended as advice, then it is obligatory to accept them, because rejecting the truth is blameworthy arrogance. Throwing papers on the ground contradicts the glorification of Allah's rituals. A Muslim must refer to verified scholars in times of dispute to learn Allah's ruling.
