Is excessive exploitation (Al-Ghabn Al-Fahish) forbidden (haram) or disliked (makruh)? And does its prohibition contradict the hadith of Urwah ibn Al-Ja'd regarding his selling two sheep for a dinar, then selling one of them for a dinar?

Deception (Ghabn) is Islamically forbidden, whether minor or major. It is prohibited to engage in its causes, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever cheats us is not of us." However, it does not nullify a sale or a lease unless the deception is major (Ghabn Fahish). As for increasing the profit or rent beyond the customary rate, with the buyer or lessee's knowledge and consent, it is permissible and has no specific limit. It is part of a Muslim's character to be generous and lenient with people in their buying and selling.
