Is there a covenant upon the soul in Islam that necessitates death if it is not kept?

Allah Almighty and His Messenger commanded the keeping of covenants and fulfilling them, and condemned those who do not fulfill them. Allah Almighty said: "And fulfill the covenant of Allah when you have made it," and "And fulfill [every] covenant. Indeed, the covenant will be questioned about." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "He has no faith who has no trustworthiness, and he has no religion who has no covenant." The covenant in Islam is of great importance, and a Muslim must uphold it as much as possible, unless it involves sin. If breaking the covenant constitutes apostasy or a major betrayal of Muslims, and spying on them for the benefit of enemies, then the ruler may execute the perpetrator as a deterrent and to eradicate the source of his evil.
