What is the ruling on keeping paper currency that has images of humans or birds on it, and selling it?

There is no objection to keeping banknotes that contain images of animate beings in a catalog. This is something that is tolerated, and their removal is not obligatory. If these banknotes are old and no longer in circulation, they become a commodity that may be sold for more than their value, because they are no longer considered currency.
