Is it true that saying "There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah" seventy thousand times forgives all sins?

The specific mention of reciting "Lā ilāha illallāh, Muḥammadur Rasūlullāh" seventy thousand times has not been reported in any authentic prophetic tradition from the Prophet (peace be upon him). Therefore, it should not be believed to be attributed to the religion or taught to people as being from the Prophet's sayings. Ibn Arabi mentioned it in "Al-Futūḥāt al-Makkiyyah" and claimed a prophetic report to that effect. While the immense virtue of the word of Tawhid (monotheism) is not denied, what is denied is the specification of this Dhikr (remembrance) with the Two Testimonies by this particular number and attributing it to the Prophet (peace be upon him). Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah was asked about reciting "Lā ilāha illallāh" seventy thousand times and dedicating it to the deceased. He replied that it benefits the deceased, but there is no sound or even weak Hadith to support it.
