Is it permissible to say "I love so-and-so for the sake of Allah" to a deceased person?
There is no objection to a Muslim saying to his Muslim brother: "Indeed, I love so-and-so for the sake of Allah," whether he is alive or dead. It is recommended to inform the living person of this, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to someone who told him: "Indeed, I love this person": "Have you informed him?" When he said: "No," he said: "Inform him." And the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to Mu'adh: "O Mu'adh, by Allah, indeed I love you."
