Can a husband take his wife back before her waiting period (iddah) ends, and where should the wife spend her waiting period, and must she leave the marital home, and what is the interpretation of verse 231 from Surat Al-Baqarah?

A husband can reconcile with his wife divorced by a revocable talaq (definition) before the iddah (definition) period ends. Revocable talaq is that which is less than the third talaq for a wife with whom consummation has occurred, without compensation, and not decreed by a judge. As for a wife with whom consummation has not occurred, she becomes irrevocably separated immediately upon divorce and has no iddah. A wife divorced by revocable talaq observes her iddah in the marital home, while an irrevocably divorced wife can observe it wherever she wishes. If an irrevocably divorced wife chooses to observe her iddah in the marital home and the husband agrees, she must observe hijab (definition) from him. The interpretation of verse 231 from Surat Al-Baqarah indicates that when the iddah of divorced women is nearing its end, they should either be retained in an acceptable manner or released in an acceptable manner. It prohibits retaining them with the intention of harming or prolonging their suffering, and whoever does so has wronged himself. The verse calls for not taking the signs of Allah in jest, and reminds of Allah's favor and what He has sent down of the Book and Wisdom, and urges piety towards Allah.
