Is a wife permitted to refuse her husband's demand, "Bow down to me," knowing that he does not pray and is of bad character, and that he threatens her with divorce?

This husband has accumulated a great deal of evil and disbelief. If he commands you to bow down to him in worship while he is conscious, then he disbelieves by doing so, and it is not permissible for you to remain with him. The marriage is dissolved due to his disbelief. If he divorced you three times while he was conscious, then it is an irrevocable major divorce (talaq (definition) bain baynunah kubra), and you are not lawful to him until you marry another husband. If the divorce occurred while he was intoxicated, the majority of jurists hold that his divorce is effective. Some, however, are of the opinion that his divorce is not effective if his intoxication reached a state where he did not comprehend what he was saying, and this is the the more preponderant opinion. If there were three separate divorces, or if he said, "You are divorced thrice," or "You are divorced, divorced, divorced," intending thereby to initiate separate divorces, then these are three divorces by which the woman becomes irrevocably divorced (bainunah kubra). If by saying, "You are divorced, divorced, divorced," he intended emphasis, then it is a single divorce. Assuming the marriage persists, it is advisable to refer the matter to the court to alleviate the harm after exerting effort in advising him.
