The answer

If the spouses disagree about the husband's intention in giving gold—whether it is a continuation of the dowry's advance payment or a gift—then the husband's statement is to be accepted, as he knows his own intention best. However, the wife is not obliged to accept gold instead of the remaining agreed-upon dowry if the agreement was for dinars. She has the right to refuse the gold and demand the remainder of her agreed-upon dowry. In the event that she does not accept the gold, the fluctuation in the dinar's exchange rate does not affect the value of the debt as long as the currency is in circulation. She is entitled to half a million dinars, and she must return the gold. As for the deferred dowry (mu'akhkhar sadaq), if it has a known due date, it must be paid upon that date's arrival. Otherwise, she is not entitled to it except upon separation, whether by death or divorce.
