What is the ruling on a wife remaining in a separate dwelling from her husband in the same building after numerous problems between them and his uttering unacceptable sexual desires, and her having warned him several times?
If the husband insists on uttering obscene language during intercourse, the wife has the right to separate from him through divorce or khulʿ, whether he does so intentionally or unintentionally due to illness. This is because such behavior harms the wife. It is not permissible for the wife to remain estranged from him unless with his consent. The wife is advised to strive to reform her husband, encourage him to repent and become righteous, and have him consult psychiatrists if he suffers from disorders. If he becomes righteous, that is good. Otherwise, she must weigh staying versus separation and choose the lesser of two evils.
