"Al-mubasharah" (intimate contact) is derived from "al-basharah" (skin), and its meaning is to enjoy the skin without engaging in sexual intercourse (penetration) in the vagina. Sometimes, it can also mean sexual intercourse, as in the Almighty’s saying: "And do not have intimate contact with them while you are in retreat in the mosques."
