Can my husband take me back with a new contract after the second divorce and the expiry of my waiting period (iddah), or do I need a muhallil? And how is my waiting period (iddah) calculated – by months or by menstrual cycles – knowing that my menstrual period occurs once every two months?

A divorced woman who menstruates must observe an ' (waiting period) of three complete menstrual cycles, even if menstruation occurs once every two months. If menstruation ceases and the divorced woman does not know the reason, she observes an 'iddah of one year after its cessation: nine months for pregnancy and three months for the 'iddah itself. If a husband divorces his wife twice and the 'iddah expires, a minor separation (baynunah sughra) occurs, and she is not permissible for him except with a new marriage contract. However, documenting the divorce is not a condition for its occurrence.
