Nothing specific is required for their wording; rather, any commonly understood expression indicating them suffices for the marriage contract to be valid, such as "I marry you to her," "I give her to you in marriage," and "I make her your possession." Not naming the dowry does not affect the validity of the contract, for the Qur'an, , and scholarly consensus have all indicated the permissibility of concluding a marriage contract without specifying a dowry.
