The majority of jurists stipulate the presence of the woman's guardian (wali) as a condition for the validity of the marriage. A girl's marriage without her guardian's consent is void, and they must be separated. Since there is a weak opinion that validates marriage without a guardian, the husband must divorce her, and his pronouncement of divorce is sufficient. After her ' (waiting period) expires, she may marry someone else. The girl must inform any suitor about her previous marriage, and she is not permitted to undergo surgery to repair the hymen, as this constitutes deception.
