The answer

We congratulate the questioner on her embracing Islam and emphasize the necessity of thanking Allah and learning the rulings of the religion. Then, we explain that Islam prohibits mixing between genders (ikhtilat), a man being alone with a woman (), and touching her, in order to protect honor and lineage. We affirm the prohibition of a Muslim woman marrying a non-Muslim man, based on textual evidence (nass) and scholarly consensus (ijma'). We also mention the conditions for a valid marriage contract: the presence of a Muslim guardian (wali). If none of the woman's guardians are Muslim, then the judge (Qadi al-Shar'i) or his representative will act as her guardian. It is permissible to conceal the marriage from her non-Muslim parents. Finally, we urge the questioner to invite her parents to Islam through all possible means, while considering the benefit in informing them of her conversion.
