Should I agree to marry a doctor who threatens to kill me if I don't marry him, and whom my mother, sisters, and friends oppose and describe as "abnormal," or should I marry a law graduate who works in a bank, whose financial circumstances are less, but who stands by me and makes me happy, and whom my family approves of?

A woman cannot live a dignified life except under the shade of religion, which safeguards her honor and preserves her dignity. The Sharia (definition) does not approve of interaction between a man and a non-mahram (definition) woman, even with the intention of marriage. It is not permissible for a woman to speak to a non-mahram man without a need. Rather, the prescribed way is for a man to propose to a woman through her guardian, and she remains a non-mahram to him until the marriage contract is concluded. The questioner must cut off her relationship with the two young men and repent, and know that the criterion for choosing a husband is his religious commitment and character.
