What is the ruling on someone who, in a state of anger, swore by the inviolability of his Hajj that he would not proceed with what had been agreed upon concerning the preparations for his marriage contract, but then recanted and completed his marriage?

A person swearing by the sacredness of his Hajj (pilgrimage) could mean two things:

First, that he forbids Hajj upon himself if he completes the preparations for the marriage contract. This does not constitute a broken oath, nor does it require expiation, because it is a change of plans. Malik and Al-Shafi'i have stated that an oath made by someone forbidding a permissible thing upon himself is not binding.

Second, that he swears by the sacredness of Hajj, saying, "By the sacredness of my Hajj, I will not complete all the marriage preparations." This oath is also not binding because it is not made by Allah Almighty. An oath is only binding when sworn by Allah Almighty or by one of His attributes.
