What is the Shar'i ruling on one who causes a wife to be divorced from her husband before consummation for an un-Shar'i reason, and what is the wife's right to the gold?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
Those who caused the wife's divorce committed a grave sin, because striving to separate spouses is forbidden. The wife should not have obeyed her parents in demanding a divorce, and he has the right to refuse divorcing her. She has the legitimate rights of a divorcée: half the Mahr if he has not consummated the marriage, and the gold that the husband buys for his wife before marriage is part of the Mahr.
