Would the marriage contract be invalid if you appointed your grandfather as your guardian (wali), while your father is angry or objects to appointing anyone other than him, or objects to the marriage itself?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
If the father delegates another to marry off his daughter, the marriage is valid, even if the father is angry or unconvinced. However, if the father refuses to marry her off or to delegate anyone for that purpose, he does not have the right to do so, and it is advisable to seek the help of respected figures to persuade him. If he remains unpersuaded, the matter should be brought before the judge to marry her off, for the ruler is the guardian of those who have no guardian. The father's shortcomings towards his children do not negate his right to dutifulness and kindness.
