The husband is obligated to provide for his wife, and the wife is not obliged to spend on her husband or herself as long as she is under his marital care. However, if the husband's provision becomes insufficient, it is permissible for her to work to secure necessities, provided that the work is free from Sharia (definition) prohibitions. Work may become obligatory for a woman if she needs it to preserve her limbs, offspring, or herself, even if it is in a mixed environment, while maintaining the hijab (definition) and avoiding unlawful seclusion. It is preferable for a woman to leave work if she can do without it, as it is more protective for her and more helpful in fulfilling the rights of her husband and children.
