The answer

The ruling on divorce varies depending on its wording, and it is preferable to consult a scholar to clarify the Islamic legal ruling. A husband's statement to his wife, "I will divorce you" or "I will set you free," does not constitute a divorce, because it is merely a promise to divorce and is not obligatory to fulfill, as mentioned by Ibn Taymiyyah. The spouses should improve their relationship and avoid problems, and the husband should avoid uttering words of divorce because they may lead to regret and family dispersion. They must also be keen on family stability and affection between them, and fulfill their rights. Hitting the face is forbidden. The wife is not permitted to leave her husband's house without his permission unless there is a legitimate Islamic excuse.
