It is not permissible to copy books, computer programs, or similar materials without the permission of their owners, whether the copying is for personal use or for commercial purposes, even if they have not offered them for sale. Violating their terms is an infringement upon their rights, and the one who does so is sinful. However, using these programs does not render earnings from permissible work, in which these programs were used, unlawful. Some contemporary scholars permit copying for personal use, but not for commercial purposes.
