Is it permissible for the questioner to continue her pregnancy and childbirth follow-up with her maternal uncle, who is an obstetrician-gynecologist, due to the unavailability of female obstetrician-gynecologists in her country, knowing that traveling to another country for treatment with a female doctor would cause her financial and health problems?
The basic principle is that a woman should be treated by a female doctor. It is permissible for her to be treated by a male doctor if there is no Muslim or non-Muslim female doctor available, or if there is a need for a skill and specialization that she does not possess. If the absence of a female doctor in the questioner's country and her travel to another country would cause her health or financial problems, then there is no harm in her consulting a male doctor. However, it is necessary that nurses directly handle the delivery and that the woman's modesty is protected from the doctor's gaze unless there is an urgent necessity.
