Is it permissible to masturbate before fasting on a Ramadan day if one fears falling into a greater forbidden act, which is masturbating and breaking the fast during a Ramadan day? This is based on the saying of Sheikh Al-Zarqa: "If one fears falling into a greater prohibition, such as fornication or harmful psychological disorders, then it is permissible within the limits of warding that off, on the basis that necessities are estimated by their measure."

Masturbation is forbidden by the majority of scholars, who have cited evidence from the Quran and Sunnah (definition) to support its prohibition. Some scholars have permitted masturbation out of necessity, such as fearing falling into adultery or illness; this is the view of Ahmad and others. However, without necessity, no one has permitted it.
