The answer

If the mother is alive, she must make up for any missed fasts if she is able. If she is unable due to old age or a chronic illness from which recovery is not expected, she should feed one poor person for each day. If the mother has died and had fasts due on her, then if her breaking of the fast was due to illness until she died, there is no make-up due on her. However, if she broke her fast due to illness, then recovered, but was negligent in making up the fasts until she died, it is recommended that her guardian fast on her behalf.
