Is it permissible to count the current days of making up for Ramadān fasts as making up for previous years after having intended them to make up for the current year and then abandoning this intention after completing the fasting?

If a person has missed days from past Ramadans, they should make them up in order, starting with the oldest. This sequence is obligatory in the madhhab (definition) of Imam Ahmad. The Permanent Committee has issued a fatwa (definition) stating the obligation of ordering the make-up of days missed from previous Ramadans. The Hanafis and Malikis, however, hold that ordering the make-up fasts is not obligatory. Nevertheless, observing the order is more cautious and avoids the dispute of those who deem it obligatory. If one was unaware of the order or forgot it, there is no blame upon them, and their make-up is valid.
