How can one convince a friend and others of the soundness of a fatwa that deems the hadith regarding fasting during the latter half of Sha'ban to be weak, especially since it goes against their customs?
It has not been established in the of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that he fasted the 15th of Sha'ban, nor did the Companions do so. Rather, it is a reprehensible innovation according to most scholars because the narrations mentioned concerning it are weak and cannot be used as evidence. What has been authentically reported from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is fasting the White Days of every month, which are the 13th, 14th, and 15th. A seeker of truth is advised to recognize the truth by its evidence, to endure harm in the path of Allah, to seek beneficial knowledge, and to adorn oneself with good character.
