Does semen discharge after being fully awake invalidate the fast?
Source: FtawySummarized from the full answer at Ftawy · imported Sep 2, 2026
Nocturnal emission (ihtilam) does not affect the fast, nor does it invalidate it, by the consensus of scholars, due to the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Three things do not break the fast of the fasting person: cupping, vomiting, and nocturnal emission." This ruling is not changed by the fact that the emission occurred only after waking up, because you had no control over what happened. It was obligatory for you to complete your fast, and you must repent to Allah and make up the day you broke your fast.
