Is it permissible to fast two consecutive months as expiation for the deceased, and is it permissible for living siblings to divide the fasting consecutively among themselves?

It is legislated for the guardian of one who has died and owed fasts to fast two consecutive months on their behalf, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Whoever dies owing fasts, his guardian should fast on his behalf." The guardian is the close relative. It is not permissible to divide the fast among a group; rather, one person must fast it consecutively, as stated in the Almighty's words concerning the killer: "And whoever finds not [the means], then a fast of two consecutive months." As for one who is able to free a slave, he must free a slave, and fasting is not sufficient for him.
