The answer

There is no harm for a visitor in eating from banquets where there is extravagance. However, she should advise the hosts to preserve and be grateful for the blessings and not to waste. She should guide them to distribute the excess to the poor and needy.

As for wasting food and throwing it with refuse, it is a reprehensible act and an transgression against the blessings of Allah, and an aid to Satan. Muslim narrated from Jabir that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Indeed, Satan is present with one of you in everything he does, even when he is eating. So if a morsel falls from one of you, he should remove any dirt from it and then eat it, and not leave it for Satan. And when he finishes, he should lick his fingers, for he does not know in which part of his food the blessing lies."

The Permanent Committee has issued a stating the obligation to preserve excess food for a second time, or to feed it to the needy. If they are not found, then to animals, even after drying it.
