The answer

The basic principle concerning foodstuffs is that they are permissible unless there is an evidence proving their prohibition. It has been established that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, ate vinegar and praised it, saying: "Vinegar is an excellent condiment." The jurists have agreed on thepermissibility of eating and drinking vinegar, whether it is from grapes or otherwise. There is no dispute regarding the permissibility of eating vinegar that originated from wine, which transformed into vinegar spontaneously.
